Term. Popularment coneguda com a «fita», es pot definir com un senyal de pedra que indica el límit d’una propietat (termenat), tot i que modernament les termes poden ser d’obra o fins i tot d’altres materials com el plàstic. A la Vall de Lord en diem «la terme» (en femení) però en altres comarques es fa servir el mateix mot canviat de gènere (el terme), tenint el mateix significat. Cal diferenciar els o les termes, equivalents a les fites, del terme , relatiu a la propietat d’una porció de terreny.

Originally the termes were stones of a slightly regular and elongated shape (A), indicating the direction of the termen or boundary. The termes are usually accompanied by witnesses, also of stone, called godchildren (B), i normalment de mida més petita que la «terme» principal. Podem trobar una, dues, tres o més filloles fent de testimoni, tot i que el més habitual és trobar-ne dues. A la Vall de Lord trobarem que les filloles s’anomenen seedlings, which according to the IEC dictionary is synonymous with son. To finish the description of the terms, we have to define the last part, the most hidden, the witness (D), which proves its authenticity. This witness can be made up of different materials such as coal, lime, remains of tiles, ... and we can only see it by digging up the term. Working in the region of La Selva we learned that this witness there is called pledge.

We can also find double terms, indicating changes in direction in the term, or triple terms indicating the intersection of three terms or three properties.

Leaving aside modern landmarks, of which we can find all types and colors, we can still find other types of landmarks, such as crosses engraved in rock.

Termination. Limit or dividing line between two terms or properties. Synonym of Limit, partition or termenal. Termenat is the proper name of the Vall de Lord. Example, This ridge is the boundary between Les Cases and Vallonga.
Termination. To have its terminus or limit at such and such a point. Synonymous with limiting. Example, In this margin I end with El Pujol.
Postpone. To mark the boundaries or terms of a property. Synonymous with delimiting. The termination, an act known among topographers, usually consists of marking the terms between two properties. To make this act official, a third person (topographer, notary, etc.) is often required to witness it and draw up a record.
These landmarks that we can still find in many corners of our geography are historical witnesses of the intense relationship that man had with the countryside or the mountains. Many of these landmarks were placed centuries ago, always being known and respected by the owners, neighbors and other inhabitants of those areas. Today, many have been lost with the abandonment of the countryside and will be very difficult to find.
